Why it matters
A corporate CSR team carries real accountability: Schedule VII compliance, proof of utilisation, and a BRSR disclosure that a parent company or global board will read — mandatory for the top 1,000 listed entities since FY 2022-23. Most implementation partners hand back photographs and a thank-you letter. That is not evidence, and a finance team cannot sign against it.

THE NATIONAL PICTURE
CSR in India: where ₹40,794 crore went in FY 2024-25
CSR spending has grown every year since it became a statutory obligation, and now exceeds ₹2.61 lakh crore cumulatively since 2013. Understanding where it concentrates — by cause and by state — is the starting point for designing a programme that adds something rather than duplicating it.

HOW AN ENGAGEMENT RUNS
A typical 12-month CSR programme, phase by phase
Indicative. Scope, duration and budget are set with you at design stage — a three-month pilot follows the same seven phases, compressed.
Phase

1 · Scoping & design
Need assessment, site selection, costed proposal, Schedule VII mapping
M1–M2
2 · Approvals & MoU
Government, DDPI and school permissions; agreement signed; funds released
M2–M3
3 · Baseline assessment
Every beneficiary scored before anything is delivered — the number your endline is measured against
M3
4 · On-ground delivery
Classroom sessions, construction or health camps, run by our own staff and vendors
M4–M9
5 · Monitoring & site visits
Dated photo logs, attendance registers, monthly notes, volunteering days for your team
M4–M11
6 · Endline & impact analysis
Beneficiaries re-scored against baseline; the change is quantified, not asserted
Most CSR programmes involve a strategy consultant, an implementation NGO, a vendor and a reporting agency. We are all four, which is why nothing falls between them.
